Investment Officer

The mission of The Wallace Foundation is to enable institutions to expand learning and enrichment opportunities for all people. We do this by supporting and sharing effective ideas and practices. To achieve our mission, we have three objectives: strengthening education leadership to improve student achievement; improving after-school learning opportunities; and building appreciation and demand for the arts.

Scope and Responsibilities:

The Investment Officer is an integral member of the Investment team. Under the leadership of the Director of Investments, the Investment Officer will be responsible for the monitoring and oversight of certain segments of the Foundation’s alternative asset portfolio to manage risk and ensure the growth of the assets in compliance with the Foundation’s investment policy.  The alternative asset portfolio currently represents about forty percent of the Foundation’s total portfolio of $1.6 billion.

Other specific responsibilities include:
  • Manage relationships and monitor performance of designated current investment managers.
  • Identify and conduct due diligence on prospective managers. Lead review meetings with managers and prepare materials and recommendations for review with the Director of Investments and presentation to the Investment Committee.
  • Prepare investment analyses and recommendations to support the decision-making process for the selection and termination of managers, conforming to the Foundation’s asset allocation strategies and risk management policies.
  • Prepare risk assessments of the Foundation’s portfolio.
  • Maintain current knowledge of overall market and in-depth knowledge of assigned alternative asset classes.

Qualifications

Master of Business Administration with a concentration in investments, finance or economics or Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

  • Three to five years relevant investment experience preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge in private equity, hedge funds, real estate, or energy partnerships.
  • Record of success in analyzing and selecting investment managers.
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, conceptual thinking capability and attention to detail.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills management relationship
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Ability to manage many complex responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with professional colleagues and committee members in a results-oriented environment.
  • Experience and strong facility in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel as needed
