The Wallace Foundation is currently active in three focus areas.  The Foundation solicits proposals from organizations it identifies for programs it initiates, and unsolicited proposals are rarely funded.

Building Appreciation and Demand for the Arts

Make the arts a part of many more people's lives working with exemplary arts organizations and through more opportunities for arts learning.

Education Leadership

Develop effective education leadership, especially among principals and superintendents, to improve student learning.

Out-Of-School Learning

Improve the quality of out-of-school learning opportunities for children and families and promote learning as a core community value.

This category captures work that crosses our current program areas, serves the interests of the Foundation as a whole, or "incubates" new ideas for future strategy directions.

Grant Approach

The Wallace Foundation is a national foundation that supports programs in the United States. Grants are awarded to nonprofit public charitable organizations that are tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
