Constructing a Partnership

Summary:

No matter their size or mission, nonprofit organizations need to be able to openly discuss success and challenges with their boards so that, together, they can help the organization be more effective. In an article in Board Member magazine, M. Christine DeVita, president of The Wallace Foundation, outlines three key steps that nonprofits can take to create and sustain such constructive partnerships with their boards. They include: Filling the information gap by providing timely, relevant updates to the board; building board cohesion by scheduling regular executive sessions; and creating the right meeting structure aligned with the needs of the organization.
