In an editorial headlined “Applause Goes to Wallace Foundation,” The Seattle Times hails the Foundation’s $7.7 million in grants to Seattle arts organizations, calling the funding a “windfall” that arrives just as other giving to the arts goes down. The grants will reach deeply into the community, which has a strong economic, as well as cultural, interest in the arts, the editorial says, adding that, “in a pinched economy, the presence of arts venues becomes even more critical.”
