Mary Mattis joined the Wallace Foundation in 2006 as a Senior Officer for Research and Evaluation attached to the Foundation’s Education Leadership Team. Prior to joining Wallace she was the Senior Program Officer for the National Academy of Engineering’s Program to Increase the Diversity of the Engineering Workforce. Her professional experience includes 14 years in senior research and executive positions at Catalyst, a research and advisory organization that works with businesses and the professions to advance women, and 12 years as Director of Research for the national offices of the Presbyterian Church, USA.
Mattis’ published research focuses on diversity of the U.S. workforce; best practices to increase the representation of women and people of color in industry, academia and specific professions; women’s entrepreneurship; and women corporate board officers and directors. She has authored, co-authored and edited a number of books, journal articles and technical reports including a 2007 edited volume Women and Minorities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (Edward Elgar). She currently serves on the editorial board of Gender in Management, an international journal.
Dr. Mattis received a master’s and doctoral degree in sociology from Washington University and graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from Oakland University.
