Pamela Mendels joined The Wallace Foundation in 2007 as Senior Writer in the Editorial Services unit. She came to Wallace from Princeton University, where she served as editor of the development office’s alumni publication. Prior to that, she had a long career in journalism, working for The Providence Journal, Newsday and BusinessWeek Online. Her freelance writing has appeared in The New York Times and other newspapers as well as magazines including BusinessWeek and Working Woman. Mendels has written widely about work and family matters, small business, the workplace and education. For four years she was a weekly columnist and regular contributor to The New York Times’ website. She helped launch and edit InsideSchools.org, a source of objective information about New York City’s public schools. Her work has earned a number of prizes, including the Newspaper Guild’s Page One Award for a Newsday series about labor shortages and their impact on the workplace and the economy.
She graduated from Smith College and has a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
