Fort Wayne is developing a district-wide culture of “no excuses” in the process of improving student achievement through defining performance standards of transformational leaders who achieve dramatic student achievement gains and inculcate those standards throughout the district as the basis for training programs and conditions improvements.
Fort Wayne is also working on shifting the focus of school leaders from operations issues to improving teaching and learning. The district is refining the selection and placement process for new leaders, recruiting more minorities, developing a support network among the principals and collaborating with local universities to develop new leadership training programs.
