St. Louis, MO

St. Louis Public School District is developing new training programs for aspiring, new and current principals to give them the knowledge and skills they need to support the district’s major condition change to managed literacy and mathematics curriculum.  A comprehensive process of “managed instruction” is being implemented throughout the district to ensure that district staff at all levels are engaged in the teaching and learning of a common curriculum. The selection and development of the curriculum is determined by the central office, the curriculum and professional development strategies will be aligned in all schools and principals will be held accountable for the implementation of the curriculum.

St. Louis Public Schools is changing the conditions under which aspiring principals enter the profession, beginning principals are recruited, hired and trained, and current principals change their practice of leadership.  Therefore, the District’s strategies revolve around the training and role changes for aspiring principals, beginning principals and incumbent principals.
