New Jersey Profile

New Jersey is developing and implementing a licensure system for school leaders that is based on clear definitions of the knowledge and skills effective leaders need.  The state is also working to redefine roles and responsibilities for education leaders to make the job more “doable” and provide the authority necessary for successful leadership by developing and implementing improved conditions of practice for school and district leaders.  Particular emphasis is being placed on leadership conditions in the lowest performing school districts.
