Rhode Island is working with the state’s leadership preparation programs and other leadership support and training organizations including school districts to redesign their leader training programs based on clear definitions of the knowledge and skills of effective leaders. The state is also working to redefine the roles, responsibilities and authority of education leaders to make the job “doable.” The changes are being undertaken in such a way as to ensure that they connect to the state’s accountability system and overall reform agenda with an in-depth review of current governance structures.
