River Valley Charter School is launching a speaker series for parents in partnership with the Wallace-Reader's Digest Funds Ventures in Leadership Program. River Valley was awarded a grant to increase parent involvement and create parent leaders by engaging them in a series of focused seminars concerning education and leadership development. The series will highlight three dynamic international speakers of parenting, leadership and Montessori education. Jack Agati will kick off the series on Thursday, Feb. 3, 7-9 p.m. at Hope Community Church in Newburyport with his session, "Raising Responsible Children." He will share a management approach to teach children how to make better decisions and become more accountable and responsible, on Thursday, Feb. 10 from 7-9 p.m., he will lead a follow up season called "The Art of Encouragement." Ed Gerety, an experienced and keynote speaker and author of "Combinations: Opening the Door to Student Leadership," will present "Raising Our Teens, Bridging the Gap," on Tuesday, March 15 from 6:30-8 p.m. This program provides a look at the issues youth are facing and shares techniques to break down the barriers that separate parents from reaching their teens.
