Mary Beth West

Mary Beth West joined The Wallace Foundation’s board of directors in 2014.

West is executive vice president and chief customer and marketing officer for J. C. Penney Company, Inc.

Formerly, she was executive vice president of Mondelēz International, where she previously served as chief category and marketing officer, overseeing all global categories, marketing strategy and communication, global sales and corporate and government affairs. Prior to the split of Kraft Foods into Mondelēz International and Kraft Foods Group in October 2012, West held several high-profile positions at Kraft, including president of the company’s $3.5 billion North American beverages business.

West began her career in 1986, when she joined General Foods as associate brand manager on Maxwell House. Beyond beverages, she has taken the reins on brands ranging from Miracle Whip to Kraft Mac & Cheese to Jell-O. Throughout her career, she has worked to marry consumer insights, inspirational leadership and innovative ideas to deliver superior business results.

West, who was a member of J.C. Penney’s board of directors before assuming the executive vice president post at the company in June 2015, serves on the board of trustees for Off The Street Club, and is a member of the Executive Leadership Council. She is also an active volunteer with the Gladney Center for Adoption. West has been recognized for her achievements by Crain’s Chicago Business, Minority MBA’s Next Generation of Business Leaders, Girls Inc., and Advertising Age. In 2010, Black Enterprise magazine named her as one of 100 most powerful people in corporate America.

West received a B.S. in management from Nazareth College of Rochester and an M.B.A. from Columbia University. She resides in Dallas with her husband and four children.
