Providence’s citywide after-school effort, known as the AfterZone, produced educational benefits for students – including improved school attendance and attitudes – according to one of the first rigorous evaluations of a citywide after-school initiative. Some benefits did not last beyond a year, perhaps because many youngsters took part only briefly. The report is the second of two studies looking at the AfterZone.
