A Wallace-commissioned look at the summer portion of Higher Achievement, a year-round program for middle school youngsters, finds that participants experienced benefits including greater interest in attending competitive high schools. They did not experience higher academic gains than a comparison group, however. A companion report finds links between participation in the school-year portion of the program and gains in reading and math.
