Wallace participates in the Glasspockets initiative to promote greater openness in private philanthropy. Launched in 2010 by the New York City-based Foundation Center, a philanthropy education and research group, Glasspockets invites foundations to publically catalogue their "online transparency and accountability practices" by disclosing whether they make available online each of 23 pieces of information, ranging from conflict-of-interest policies to the foundation's assessment of its performance.

Wallace is also one of the co-signers of the 2015 Principles for Good Governance and Ethical Practice, 33 principles to guide the work of nonprofits and foundations. The principles are spelled out in a document originally drawn up in 2007 by the Panel on the Nonprofit Sector, an independent effort by charities and foundations convened by Independent Sector, a coalition of such organizations. In 2014, Independent Sector brought together an advisory group of 21 sector leaders (including Wallace Foundation President Will Miller) to revise the principles to account for changes in society, technology and law that had occurred since the original release.
