Senior Program Officer
Dara Rose joined the foundation’s Communities team as a program officer in 2005. Before that, she was a member of the senior management of the Partnership for After-School Education, where she co-directed the Professional Development Institute and managed the Queens Cultural Partnership for Youth, a U.S. Department of Education model arts-education initiative in collaboration with Bank Street College. Previously, she directed youth programs at Citizens for NYC and also worked at Project Reach Youth, a Brooklyn-based agency that serves children and families.
Rose has served on a number of boards of small youth-serving nonprofits and serves as co-chairwoman of the steering committee of New York City Youth Funders, an affinity group of Philanthropy NY. She was a contributing writer and editor for a number of magazines and has written about topics including teen pregnancy, incarceration and youth organizing. Rose has been a frequent presenter and panelist on a range of out-of-school issues at meetings sponsored by organizations including Grantmakers for Children, Youth and Families, Grantmakers for Education, and the National Afterschool Association. She has a master’s in public administration from New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and a B.A. from SUNY-Binghamton with a double major in sociology and Spanish literature and a minor in Latin American and Caribbean studies.
