Chicago: a “Model” for Building After-School Program System

Catalyst Chicago

The Out-of-School Time (OST) project in Chicago, supported by Wallace and serving some 135,000 children, is seen as a “national model” for what it takes to begin building a system of high quality out-of-school time programming, writes Catalyst Chicago, which covers Chicago public schools. The project’s accomplishments to date include the development of a management information system to collect data from throughout the city on things such as children’s attendance and participation in OST programming. Still, the Chicago project, like OST ventures across the country, has much to accomplish, Catalyst writes. A major item is securing a “dedicated” funding source.
