All children deserve summers that enrich them and keep them from falling behind academically, Wallace Foundation President Will Miller writes in a
commentary appearing in the May 2012 issue of School Administrator. In the piece, Miller describes a $50 million initiative by Wallace to boost summer learning programs in six urban districts around the nation and to test how big a difference these programs can make in staving off summer learning loss. “We think it’s worth finding out whether urban school districts can help transform what’s now too often a time of decline into a time of fired imagination,” he writes.
