Eastport, ME/January 1, 2000 - National Hallelujah launched with "First Light," a site-specific performance on the city's breakwater, coinciding with the dawn of the new millennium. Hundreds of people watched as 60 local participants joined the Dance Exchange to commemorate the special occasion.
Tucson, AZ/March 4-5, 2000 - The University of Arizona hosted "In Praise of Ordinary Prophets," which brought together various faiths and cultures to reflect on spirituality, prophets and the city's desert setting. Performers (nearly 160) ranged from a teen Mariachi band to Hebrew academy students; from a combined chorus of Benedictine nuns, church choirs and a Lesbian and Gay chorus, to a Mexican Folklorico dance group. The performance was seen by nearly 3,000 people.
Lee, MA/August 14-20, 2000 - The historic Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival was the setting for "In Praise of Fertile Fields." Amid the beautiful Berkshire setting, the event combines archival material on the Pillow, stories about gardening and the biblical character, Jacob, as well as a reprise of "In Praise of Animals and Their People," which first premiered in Washington, D.C. in March, 1999.
New Orleans, LA/October 8-19, 2000 - A Hallelujah presentation will be piloted in collaboration with the Tandem Partners Program of the New Orleans Ballet Association and the Louisiana Presenters Network.
Ann Arbor/Detroit, MI/November 4, 2000 and Fall 2001 - A performance that links the two cities may be considered for inclusion in a larger celebration of the Motor City's 300th anniversary. A collaborative effort with the University Musical Society, U. of Michigan and diverse members of the Detroit arts community.
Deer Isle, ME/December 9, 2000 - "In Praise" theme will focus on residents' personal histories and their connections to this "downeast" fishing community that takes pride in its non-commercialization.
Los Angeles, CA/February 9-10, 2001 - This Hallelujah event is a partnership between the Skirball (Jewish) Cultural Center and the Japanese-American community through a collaboration with musician/choreographer Nobuko Miyamoto and her organization, Great Leap.
Burlington, VT/March 9-10, 2001 - Work, immigration and family life are explored with members of three small towns near Burlington in a performance at the city's Flynn Theater for the performing arts. This event marks the culmination of a multi-year relationship with the Dance Exchange designed to broaden community participation in the arts.
Houston, TX/April 28, 2001 - Local artists and community organizations join with Houston's Society for the Performing Arts and the Dance Exchange to perform "In Praise of Family Legends." The concept reflects Mexican traditions of passing down stories about saints, angels and ancestors.
Lincoln, NE/May 19, 2001 - The University of Nebraska's Wagon Train Project welcomes Hallelujah as it explores the future and the past during its annual "Tell-a-bration" story-telling festival. A site-specific museum performance may also take place.
Minneapolis, MN/June 16, 2001 - This collaboration with Intermedia Arts and the Minnesota Dance Alliance will build on connections between the many diverse communities that lie in a two-mile radius of the renowned Walker Art Center.
Raleigh, NC/April 2002 - The College of Veterinary Medicine and local artists will expand on the theme, "In Praise of Animals and Their People."
