After-School Programs Are a Model for Other Urban School Districts

An article in the June 5 edition of the Providence Journal highlights the success Providence has had with after-school education programs. With a grant of $5 million dollars from The Wallace Foundation, the city of Providence has been able to develop a network of 60 program providers that serve a total of 2,000 middle school youth, 35 percent of the total middle school population. Providence’s efforts have proven successful and drawn the interest of other cities looking to develop similar after school programs.
