Arts Grants that “Couldn’t Have Come at a Better Time” Get Notice in Seattle

Given the economic downturn, the announcement that nine local arts organizations will receive Wallace Excellence Awards “couldn't have come at a better time,” writes the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The grants will support a range of efforts in the Seattle area to encourage more people to take part in the arts, The Seattle Times notes. Among the recipients is On the Boards, a contemporary performing arts organization, which will use its grant to help fund online, high-definition broadcasts of its offerings. "This is an opportunity to learn and explore the viability and ramifications of watching performance online," On the Boards artistic director Lane Czaplinski tells the Times. "We think it's going to be a powerful tool to communicate with young people who are used to processing their world this way."
